MDR announces Embedded Processor Forum program
May 10, 2001 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsSunnyvale, CA — (press release excerpt) — Cahners MicroDesign Resources (MDR) announced today that it is expanding this year's Embedded Processor Forum to three days of first public disclosures of more than 30 new microprocessors, DSPs, and related embedded technologies, with a full day to be devoted to new network processor chips.
Now marking its fourth year, the week-long June 11-15 event at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, CA will also feature full-day seminars by industry experts and analysts including Steve Leibson and Markus Levy of MDR (information appliances), Linley Gwennap and Bob Wheeler of The Linley Group (network processors), and Jeff Bier (DSPs for communications appliances) and John Strawn (digital and streaming audio) of Berkeley Design Technology, Inc.
IBM, Nintendo and ATI will kick off this year's sessions with a special keynote in which they will disclose details of the Nintendo GameCube for the first time. Microsoft's Bill Veghte, vice president of the Embedded & Appliance Platforms Group, will present the keynote for the second conference day, unveiling Microsoft's vision for Smart Devices and discussing the future of embedded operating systems, including the next versions of Windows CE and Windows Embedded.
To open Network Processor Forum on June 14 — at which new microprocessors developed to make networks run faster and more efficiently will make their debut — Chuck Fox, Chameleon Systems president and CEO, will address the future of ASICs in network and communications design and the rise of field-programmable solutions as an alternative.
Among the companies presenting first public disclosures of new chips, architectures and cores are Alchemy Semiconductor, ARC Cores, ARM, Brecis, Broadcom, Chicory Systems, Cognigine, embedded wireless devices inc, Hi/fn, IBM, Infineon Technologies, Lexra, LinkUp Systems, Mellanox Technologies, MIPS Technologies, Motorola, National Semiconductor, Nazomi Communications, NEC, Philips Semiconductors, STMicroelectronics, Sun Microsystems, Tensilica, Texas Instruments, TriMedia Technologies, Xelerated, XStream Logic and Zucotto Wireless.
