Meet the “mine” — a Linux-based data storage/record/playback device
Dec 5, 2002 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsThis article at LinuxDevices.com introduces the Terapin “mine” — a hand-held, Internet-enabled, personal data storage and record/playback device. The PowerPC and Linux powered device's built-in 10 GB HDD can hold thousands of digital photographs and audio tracks, plus lots of other data. To encourage the world-wide developer community to create apps for the device, Terapin has launched the mine Developer Network (mDN) website, where the mine's SDK and docs can be freely downloaded, and for a limited time developers can buy one at the special discount price of $399 (USD). Through this strategy, Terapin hopes to enable use of the mine not only as a digital data bank, but also as a PDA-like handheld computer.
