LinuxWorld — (press release excerpt) — Computer I/O Corporation has announced Easy I/O DirectWare, a unique embedded software and services “middleware solution” targeting the communications industry. The software enables Microsoft Windows clients to transparently communicate with Linux-based embedded data acquisition servers, without concern for operating system, network compatibility, or protocols.

According to Paul Zorfass, senior embedded analyst with IDC/FTI, “Computer I/O's DirectWare addresses [the] growing need for remote communications between disparate operating systems and devices in applications such as telecom testing, data warehousing, and VoIP.”

Easy I/O DirectWare provides a multi-node client/server communication framework that allows Microsoft Windows applications to retrieve data from remote Linux-based servers. Unlike other middleware alternatives, DirectWare is optimized to provide direct access to data streams found in telecom test and distributed data acquisition equipment. Its data streaming capabilities enable remote analysis applications to process data in real-time.

Designed for dynamic network environments, DirectWare supports both permanent and distributed monitoring points across communications networks. Auto-discovery capability enables the application to adapt to network and server changes without having to manually reconfigure the system. The multiple channel data stream capability enables different client applications to share access to multiplexed telecommunication streams (e.g., T1/E1). This capability is especially useful for convergent data streams that carry voice, video and data. In addition, DirectWare supports various analog, digital, and telecom interfaces with built-in configuration database support. The software is now available for customer shipment.
