Miguel de Icaza on Mono 2.0

The conversation includes some interesting discussion of Mono's use on embedded devices like the iPhone, Wii, XBox, PS3, and Dell's Linux-based Sansa Connect PMP.

According to de Icaza, Mono has found success among enterprise developers, who use it to run ASP.net applications on Linux servers. It has also seen use among embedded developers, especially as a “gaming engine” for iPhone, Wii, and soon XBox and PS3 games. However, Mono's original intended purpose was to further the Linux desktop, by making developers more productive, according to de Icaza, himself a desktop Linux user for more than eleven years.
Along with Mono's history and current state, de Icaza talks about his plans for the future, especially with regard to upcoming C## features like “C## eval,” and pending releases of Moonlight and Mono Develop. Another interesting topic broached is the Mono Project's supposed exposure to patent threats from Microsoft.
