MontaVista adds MIPS to its 2.6 Linux kernel eval
Dec 9, 2004 — by Henry Kingman — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsMontaVista customers targeting the MIPS architecture can now evaluate the 2.6 Linux kernel, using a Linux 2.6-based BSP (board support package) for MIPS kernel Technologies's Malta evaluation board. The BSP is free to existing MIPS customers, as is a similar 2.6-based BSP for x86 customers.
Along with a 2.6 evaluation kernel, the evaluation BSP, or “Linux Support Package” (LSP) in MontaVista lingo, includes applications borrowed from a current 2.4.20-based MIPS Malta BSP/LSP. The Malta is an ATX development board from MIPS Technologies that supports both MIPS32 and MIPS64 processors, through a daughter card that can host either an FPGA implementation of a synthesizable core, or a lead vehicle chip.
According to MontaVista, its 2.6 MIPS kernel supports:
- High Resolution Timers
- KGDB (kernel debugger) Support
- Interrupt Latency Measurement
- Linux Trace Toolkit
- Configurable System V Semaphores
- Cross-Development Build Enhancements
The MIPS evaluation LSP is available now to current customers through the support area of MontaVista's website.
MontaVista launched its 2.6-based “early access” BSP in September.
