MontaVista Announces its Engineering Director

Orvek comes to MontaVista with 18 years of experience at Hewlett-Packard Co. in engineering management, software design engineering and technical support.

Orvek's background in high availability, operating system architecture and real-time, augments MontaVista's already substantial expertise in embedded systems and open systems computing. Orvek himself feels that “Linux will be the key technology for powering 'post-PC' era devices — Internet appliances and other pervasive computing applications. MontaVista is uniquely positioned to provide solutions for this market with its focused Hard Hat Linux product and services.”
At Hewlett-Packard, Orvek was R&D section manager for IA-64; project manager for EMS (Event Management Services) and for HP's real-time operating system, HP-RT; and program manager for HP-UX systems management. Orvek also contributed directly to software for PA-RISC, including HP-RT, MPE XL and MPE V/E. At MontaVista Orvek will lead the engineering team focused on streamlining Linux for embedded applications, including development of scaling and configuration tools, cross development toolkits and performance enhancements to the Linux kernel.
MontaVista, which debuted its Hard Hat Linux distribution in 1999, partners with Force Computers Inc., Motorola Computer Group, Ziatech Corp. and WinSystems Inc. Hard Hat runs on those companies' CompactPCI and single-board computer (SBC) platforms, popular choices for use in telecommunications and Internet appliance applications.
