MontaVista releases graphics, Java options for consumer electronics Linux
Jul 15, 2003 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsMontaVista software announced the availability of several key software packages as options for its consumer electronics Linux offering. The new packages include: IBM's WebSphere Studio Device Developer 5.0, for development and deployment of embedded Java applications; Trolltech's Qtopia application framework for handheld devices, and Qt/Embedded graphical API; and MontaVista Graphics, an X Windows based… graphics system for embedded devices.
MontaVista said it “adds significant value” to the IBM and Trolltech packages by building and validating each of them for the specific processors, video chipsets, and reference board configurations supported by MontaVista Linux Consumer Electronics Edition (CEE), and that it delivers each third-party software package in both ready-to-deploy binary and source format.
The Java and graphics support had initially been touted as complementary options when CEE was first released in January of this year, and MontaVista later announced plans to offer a ready-to-deploy version of Qtopia by mid-year.
