[updated Jun. 9, 2004] — MontaVista has upgraded its graphics feature pack for developers creating graphical user interfaces for X11 applications running on MontaVista Linux Professional Edition 3.1. MontaVista Graphics now supports the SH architecture, with ARM support in progress, and includes a smaller window manager.

According to MontaVista, the new graphics pack includes up-to-date versions of target components, TinyX from XFree86, the Gtk+ 2 toolkit, freetype, Pango font rendering, ATK, and the IceWM and lightweight Matchbox window managers.

Supported architectures now include Intel XScale; both IBM and Motorola variants of PowerPC; MIPS2K, MIPS3K, and MIPS4K; Renesas SH3 and SH4; and Intel 486, 586, and IA-32. Support is pending for ARM7 and ARM9 and Texas Instruments OMAP.

Memory requirements are dependent on the application, according to MontaVista, although experience suggests GUIs developed with MontaVista Graphics require about 4MB of additional system RAM.

“The use of graphics for embedded device applications has grown substantially. We have responded by updating MontaVista Graphics, which offers a rich variety of GUI development tools based on popular industry standard open source technologies,” said Sr. Product Marketing Manager Michael Mathews.

Availability

MontaVista Graphics is available now, and is intended for use with MontaVista's standard Eclipse-based DevRocket development environment.
