Tempe, AZ — (press release excerpt) — Building on its position as the worldwide leader in providing embedded computing platforms to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), Motorola Computer Group announced that its Advanced High Availability Software for Linux (“HA Linux”) was awarded Product of the Year by both Internet Telephony Magazine and Communication Solutions Magazine.

Motorola was recognized in Internet Telephony Magazine's Industrial Computers (high-availability software) category because it enables applications that run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and gives its telecommunications customers the industry's first “out-of-the-box” software solution that supports the high-availability features and functions of Motorola's carrier-grade platforms based on Intel architecture and PowerPC microprocessors.

As well, Communications Solution Magazine awarded Motorola's HA Linux solution in its High-Availability Platform category. As the first high-availability Linux offering in the marketplace, Motorola's HA Linux allows telecommunications suppliers to develop and network operators to deploy applications that meet or exceed 5NINES availability.

5NINES or 99.999 percent service availability equates to five minutes or less of downtime per year, both planned and unplanned. High availability solutions that meet this criteria are particularly important in the telecom marketplace, where only a few minutes of downtime can translate to millions of dollars lost on an annual basis.
