New York — (press release excerpt) — Tipic Inc. announced plans to use Mono to build a multi-platform server that works on Linux and UNIX as well as on Microsoft Windows servers.

Mono is an open source project that will let developers build and deploy Microsoft .NET applications for Linux and UNIX. Tipic is using Mono to develop instant messaging (IM) applications in programming languages that enable them to run on multiple operating systems.

Tipic is developing applications for its IM client, which communicates using the XMPP/Jabber standard. Moving beyond traditional instant messaging, applications based on the Tipic Instant Messaging Platform (TIMP) enable users, applications and web services to send and receive messages, news feeds, alerts and other data and content using streaming XML technology.

Tipic Inc. develops network independent Instant Messaging platforms based on open protocols, for wired and wireless devices.
