NetBSD gains Broadcom MIPS Processor support
Jun 4, 2002 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 1 viewsNew York, NY — (press release excerpt) — Wasabi Systems today announced the integration into the NetBSD source tree of support for Broadcom's BCM1250, the first product in Broadcom's SiByte new family of high-performance, low-power, highly-integrated processors for networking, wireless communications, storage, appliance, and imaging applications. The PCM1250 port, which was initially developed by Broadcom, is now available as part of the BCM91250A and BCM91250E evaluation board package. Wasabi will provide ongoing support and development for the port.
Integrating Broadcom's port into the official NetBSD source tree will enable Broadcom to reap the benefits of open source development for its port, while giving the NetBSD community access to Broadcom's efforts. The open source BSD license enables this kind of cooperation between the enterprise and the community.
NetBSD runs on over fifty distinct architectures, representing thirteen separate 32- and 64-bit CPU families.
