New project aims to standardize Embedded Linux CLI
Mar 7, 2001 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsA new SourceForge project has been started which aims to create the first standard specification for the command line interface (CLI) for Embedded Linux Devices. The project is aimed principally at industrial control and data acquisition applications but has broad applicability to embedded systems in general.
The CLI is the primary user interface used for configuring, monitoring, and maintaining linux embedded devices. This user interface allows you to directly and simply execute Linux commands, whether using a console or terminal, or using remote access methods.
Everyone is welcome to help describe and define the basic features of the command-line interface and how to use them. Topics covered may include navigation and editing features, help features, command history features, and command modes. Suggested development language is C++, using Qt/Embedded library. Suggested design is mostly similar to Cisco IOS.
