(PR excerpt) — Thomas Besemer Consulting today announced the release of VSH. The tool provides an environment similar to the VxWorks shell from Wind River Systems, giving Embedded Linux developers the ability to peek and poke kernel/device memory from the application level. It provides an interactive shell which the user can use to interact with kernel level modules and devices, as well as an Agent… which allows normal sh scripting to operate on memory in kernel space.

VSH was created in the lab by its author, who, after 15 years of VxWorks based development and consulting, ventured into Embedded Linux. The first thing he looked for was that simple ability to peek and poke memory, in protected space, and thus, developed this tool. It's simple, yet robust. It's been used by many groups to help develop and debug Device Drivers.
