Novell is readying a maintenance update for SUSE Linux Enterprise Real-Time (SLERT), its real-time Linux distribution targeting enterprise applications, including trading systems. The update brings bugfixes and incremental improvements adapted from the “Service Pack 1” (SP1) update recently delivered to customers of its… standard SUSE Linux Enterprise product.

Additionally, Novell announced that two companies have joined its data center partner ecosystem:

• Concurrent, which supplies real-time Linux technology used in SLERT

• Voltaire, which supplies InfiniBand-based switching solutions and OFED 1.2 InfiniBand software compatible with SLERT

Ken Barnes, VP at Wombat Financial Software, stated, “[SLERT] provides customers a flexible, open standards-based operating system to maximize the performance of their time sensitive workloads.”

Availability

Novell expects to ship its Service Pack 1 release for SUSE Linux Enterprise Real-Time in July. Presumably, the release is free to existing license holders.
