This announcement was submitted on behalf of the open source CanFestival project, which offers CAN bus support for Linux based real-time and embedded systems . . .

CanFestival is the first free GPL CAN and CANOpen master/slave software suite available for Linux and RTLinux.

The CAN driver currently supports the ADLINK PCI 7841 board using the SJA 1000 chipset. However, the CAN driver layer has been written in a manner such that the porting to other chipsets should be very easy.

The CANOpen layer is master/slave capable, and supports SDO and PDO messages. A sniffer is available in the package too.

The package is particularly interesting because it can be used in Linux user space or for hard real-time applications using RTLinux. Furthermore, this software can be embedded.

A lot of docs are available in the package, and there is a graphical chart of the process.
