(PR excerpt) — Arcom has added support for IBM's WebSphere communications and high performance J9 JVM to the Arcom Embedded Linux Development Kit for the 133MHz PC/104 Arcom PEGASUS embedded PC.

Additionally, the list of the Development Kit's capabilities has also been extended to include Java class and C library client support for the MQIsdp protocol (MQ Integrator, SCADA device protocol). This ultra-light weight protocol lets you exchange telemetry data between a SCADA client device and an IBM WebSphere MQ Integrator (WMQI) broker using a simple publish/subscribe messaging model. The WMQI broker lets you transform and distribute message data in near real time (from sensors, automatic metering equipment and status monitoring devices) to different enterprise applications and databases. The MQIsdp client application maintains a low data overhead by publishing data on a 'report-by-exception' basis, rather than by continuous polling. This architecture offers cost effective communications over a low bandwidth dial up telephone network, GSM/GPRS wireless modem or even using a satellite link. Arcom has made it easy to achieve the first steps in your development program by including working examples of the MQIsdp client (for both C and Java) to establish communications and publish data to an IBM WebSphere MQ Integrator broker hosted by Arcom.

The entire Development Kit is based on the GNU/Linux operating system using the proven and robust 2.4 kernel. The optional IBM JVM and your Java based application can load and execute directly from the on board 16MB Flash memory using the high reliability compressed Flash filing system (JFFS2).

The comprehensive Development Kit includes the PEGASUS PC/104 single-board computer (SBC) fitted with 32MB DRAM and 16MB of Flash, PSU, rugged enclosure, serial and Ethernet cable set, Quickstart Manual and the Development Kit Utility CD. Also included is a copy of IBM's award winning WebSphere Studio Device Developer IDE development tools which lets you quickly develop, debug and deploy your Java based application.

The PEGASUS SBC is a fan-less 133MHz AMD SC520 (Am5x86) based processor board offering 10/100baseTx Ethernet, four serial ports, 128Kbytes of fast SRAM, printer port, IDE interface and expansion via the PC/104 bus. The product is a standard PC/104 size board (3.6 x 3.8 in.) and is targeted at deeply embedded communication applications.
