Pickup a PepperPad Pair for a Paltry Pittance
Aug 17, 2006 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 2 viewsWant a Linux webpad, but furrowing your brow over the Nokia 770's Lilliputian look? For a limited time (six hours from publication time), daring deal chasers with a $1,000 can bag two PepperPads, which have not only larger screens but much faster processors than the 770.
Specifics of the deal were published this morning by CarryPad, a UK-based online site devoted to UMPCs (ultra mobile PCs), aka “Origami” devices.
The deal involves purchasing the PepperPad 2, an older model powered by a 667MHz ARM processor that is being “closed out” for about $500 by online discount retailer eCost.
Next, savvy shoppers can take advantage of a $200 discount on the PepperPad 3 offered by Pepper Computer to owners of earlier models.
You end up with two great mobile Linux devices for $1,000, CarryPad says. The publication has confirmed with Pepper Computer that its upgrade discount will be honored, even on models purchased at closeout pricing.
Get 'em while they last. CarryPad's story about the deal is here. eCost's Pepper Pad 2 close-out page may be found by searching for “pepper” from the site's homepage.

Incidentally, the PepperPad 2 sports an 8.5-inch screen, while the PepperPad 3's screen is 7 inches. The Nokia 770, meanwhile, has a 4.3-inch screen. Note, also, that The PepperPad 3 is not yet available, but is expected to ship this month.
