And now for a juicy quote from Venture Development Corp about the embedded Linux market and the growing requirement for database access in embedded systems . . . .
“Linux as a low cost, highly reliable platform has continued to gain momentum and serious consideration from embedded developers as an embedded operating system for development projects,” noted Venture Development Corporation (VDC) analyst Stephen Balacco. “Recent market research by VDC identified Linux as the number one operating system platform in 2002 supporting database management solutions for embedded system devices. Going forward, we expect the use of Linux to expand and span all vertical markets in technologically advanced devices that increasingly will take on the issues of managing complex data with a database engine that is often tightly integrated with device-based applications.”
