Proprietary, open OS vendors debate RTOS value

Oct 8, 2004 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 1 views

Proprietary and open source OS vendors will discuss the value of real-time operating systems (RTOSes) at the Embedded Systems Show, October 14th in Birmingham, UK. The panel discussion is entitled “How much is an RTOS worth?”, and will include Accelerated Technology, eCosCentric, Green Hills, Microsoft, and MontaVista.

RTOS costs are a topic of concern among engineers, architects, and managers, according to eCosCentric, which plans to outline the strengths of the open source eCosPro operating system it specializes in supporting.

Panel members will weigh the benefits of differing approaches in terms of costs, licensing, and technology, and how these apply to the overall embedded market. Attendees will have ample opportunity to ask questions.

The panel discussion is sponsored by the Institution of Electrical Engineers. It will take place between 1 and 2 P.M. on Thursday, Oct. 14, at the Embedded Systems Show 2004, at the NEC in Birmingham, UK.
