PXA270 SODIMM-sized SBC runs Linux

Toradex AG of Switzerland has released an SODIMM format computer module based on the Intel XScale PXA270 processor. The Colibri is optionally available with Linux pre-installed, and targets low power applications that still require high CPU performance, according to the company.

The device runs at up to 520 MHz and consumes as little as 800 mW. It includes 64 MB of SDRAM and 32 MB of Flash. The full 32-bit wide CPU bus is available for custom extensions, along with an extensive array of peripheral interface ports including the new Intel Mobile Scalable Link with transfer speeds of up to 416 Mbps, Toradex says.

Toradex lists the following key features and specifications for the Colibri SODIMM-sized SBC:

  • Processor — Intel XScale PXA270 at either 312 or 520 MHz
  • Memory — 64 MB SDRAM; 32 MB Flash
  • Display — provides “glueless connectivity” to passive and active LCDs up to 800×600 resolution, plus 4-wire resistive touch-screen interface
  • I/O ports:
    • 100 Mbit Ethernet
    • Mobile Scalable Link
    • 2 USB — 1 host, 1 device
    • 3 UARTs
    • 3 synchronous serial ports
    • I2C
    • CMOS/CCD image sensor
    • Audio — 16-bit stereo in and out

  • Expansion options — interfaces are available for Memory Stick, CompactFlash, PCMCIA, and SD/MMC cards
  • Dimensions — 36.7 x 67.6 mm (1.44 x 2.66 inches)

The Colibri is priced at 99 euros or $134 US, and comes with either embedded Linux or Windows CE preinstalled, according to Toradex.
