QNX makes a ‘Momentics’ announcement
Jun 17, 2002 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsQNX Software Systems (Ottawa, Canada) has introduced a new branding — “Momentics” — to go with the company's first in-house developed graphical Integrated Development Environment (IDE). The recently introduced QNX Momentics Development Suite marks a major step forward for QNX, one that is clearly intended to take on market leader Wind River's popular “Tornado” embedded development toolset.
QNX Momentics is one of the first development toolsets built on the open source Eclipse project IDE framework. Momentics includes QNX Neutrino, a POSIX-compliant real-time operating system (RTOS), quick-start wizards, board support packages, driver development kits, GNU command-line toolchain, libraries, the Photon graphical application builder, editors, and a complete set of utilitarian tools including: source debugger, memory analyzer, profiler, system builder, target information, target navigator, target agent, version control, and system analysis.
Thanks to use of Eclipse as the IDE's framework, Momentics will be able to make use of third-party plug-in tools. The new tools will not only interoperate with existing Momentics tools, but will share the same intuitive user interface provided by Eclipse.
The launch of the QNX Momentics development suite follows what the company characterizes as “a rigorous beta program involving more than 130 customers and partners, including participation from Cisco, Delphi, Motorola, Nokia, and NASA.”
QNX Momentics Professional Edition is priced at $8,695 while QNX Momentics Standard Edition is $4,295. QNX Neutrino target royalties are not included.
