QNX RTOS to support tiny Epson SBC

Hannover, Germany; CeBIT — (press release excerpt) — QNX Software Systems and Epson Europe Electronics today announced a technical alliance aimed at helping developers build compact, low-power embedded systems for applications such as in-car computers, network devices, and mobile test units. The goal of the collaboration is to integrate the QNX RTOS v6 with Epson's ultra-small single board computer (SBC), the CARD-PCI/GX1+.

Roughly the size of a pack of cigarettes (101.6 x 63.5 x 16 mm), the EPSON CARD-PCI/GX1+ is a complete x86-compatible embedded computer that integrates a National Semiconductor Geode GX1 processor, 32M to 128M of synchronous DRAM memory, a high-performance SXGA video controller, a Super I/O controller, an AC97 audio interface, PCI bus interfaces, and more. Power consumption is only 4.4 W.

Based on a rugged, MMU-protected architecture, the QNX RTOS supports a variety of off-the-shelf SBCs. QNX software modules available include a customizable GUI, a web browser, multimedia players, a PCMCIA manager, a tiny TCP/IP stack, and a choice of file systems (flash, POSIX, CIFS, etc.).

QNX RTOS support for the CARD-PCI/GX1+ is scheduled for May, 2001. The QNX RTOS is a core component of the QNX realtime platform, a complete, self-hosted development environment that is available free of charge for non-commercial use.
