Santa Clara, CA — (press release) — Trolltech today announced plans to provide a complete graphical user interface (GUI) solution to hardware manufacturers using NEC Electronics' VR Series 64-bit MIPS RISC microprocessors. Qt/Embedded, Trolltech's GUI application framework for embedded Linux, has been adapted to run on NEC's evaluation boards featuring the VR4100 family of processors. The VR4100 processors' high speed, low power consumption and high integration make them ideal for use in portable handheld systems. In addition, these microprocessors provide stability and scalability to manufacturers of embedded devices.

Trolltech will hold the official product launch for Qt/Embedded at the LinuxWorld expo at the San Jose Convention Center, which will run from August 15 to 17 and will demonstrate Qt/Embedded on NEC's VR4181 based reference platform and VR4121 based Casio Cassiopeia E-105. Qt/Embedded, which is completely independent of the X Windows system (X11), allows for significant memory/power savings and additional features like anti-aliased text and alpha blended pixmaps.
