Radstone adopts BlueCat Linux for their rugged VME hardware

TOWCESTER, U.K.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Feb. 14, 2000–Radstone Technology and Lynx Real-Time Systems of San Jose, Calif., have partnered to provide Lynx milestone BlueCat Linux Operating System on Radstone's popular PPCx family of rugged PowerPC based Single Board Computers (SBC). The PPC4/4A, latest in the high performance, harsh environment, SBC family will become a BlueCat reference platform by Q2 2000.

The partnership underlines Radstone's commitment to provide its customers the best possible choice of Operating Systems within the military and industrial embedded markets. Those customers are increasingly seeing Linux with its open source model, as a major benefit.

The toolset and code compatibility between BlueCat and Lynx' LynxOS real-time operating system, enable systems containing both non real-time and critical real-time elements to be constructed from Radstone's extensive hardware range. Users can now exploit the wide range of Unix compatible computational and human interface application software and this can be deployed in combination with their application specific real-time software.

“This is the best of both worlds,” said Andy West, software product manager for Radstone's Processor Group. “Our customers are attracted to the open source model, yet want to retain the kind of backup for critical programs they have been used to from Radstone and the mainstream O/S vendors. “BlueCat provides both — an embedded Linux backed by the same partnership that is already supplying highly successful, rugged PowerPC/real-time LynxOS solutions.”

The PPC4/4A, with the latest PowerPC MPC7400 processor and now BlueCat support, further enhance Radstone's range of COTS products, providing solutions for the most demanding of requirements.

Lynx Real-Time Systems offer a range of BlueCat program support options from incident level to long-term comprehensive support, training and consulting. BlueCat Linux on Radstone's PPC4/4A PowerPC will be available in Q2 2000.
