Fanless computer has dual expansion slots, ports galore

Sealevel Systems announced an embedded computer that uses a 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU and is said to run fanlessly at up to 133 deg. F. The Relio R5200 has PCI Express x16 and PCI expansion slots, a 2.5-inch drive bay, and a front panel that includes four serial ports, two gigabit Ethernet ports, six USB 2.0 ports, and two IEEE-1384 (FireWire) ports, the company says.

Sealevel's Relio R5200 is the latest in a line of Linux-ready Relio industrial computers dating back to 2006, and the company has been supporting Linux in its products since 2000.

According to Sealevel, when the Relio R5200 is equipped with a solid-state disk drive (SSD), it can operate without fans or other moving parts, and can do so at up to 133 deg. F (45 deg. C). The system — "ideal for harsh industrial environments" — is powered by a 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7500, originally designed for mobile applications, plus the GME965 chipset (82GMW965 northbridge and ICH-8M southbridge), the company adds.

According to Sealevel, these components give the system a maximum power consumption of 120 Watts, via an external AC adapter that supplies 24VDC power. This figure takes into account potential expansion boards, since the Relio R5200 has slots for one PCI x16 board and one 32-bit PCI board (maximum length not specified).

Meanwhile, the R5200's jam-packed front panel (above) includes two gigabit Ethernet ports, a VGA port (resolution up to 2048 x 1536 pixels), separate PS/2 keyboard and mouse ports, six USB 2.0 ports, and four DB9 serial ports (1 x RS232/422/485, and 3 x RS232). In addition to that, the system also sports audio I/O (microphone in and line out) and two IEEE-1384 (FireWire) ports, according to Relio.

Internally, in addition to the expansion slots, there's room for a 2.5-inch SATA hard disk drive, Relio says. The system supports up to 4GB of 533/667MHz RAM via two DIMM slots, the company adds.

Sealevel says the Relio R5200 runs Linux, Windows Embedded operating systems, and Windows XP Professional. The system includes a 255-level watchdog timer, a battery-backed real time clock, thermal and voltage monitoring, plus wake-on-ring and wake-on-alarm functionality, adds the company.

Specifications listed by Sealevel for the Relio R5200 include the following:

  • Processor — Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 clocked at 2.2GHz
  • Chipset — GME965 chipset (82GMW965 northbridge and ICH-8M southbridge)
