Beijing, China — (press release excerpt) — Red Flag Linux and Trolltech AS have signed an agreement that will result in the creation of a complete, stable, and predictable Embedded Linux platform for the growing number of handheld device manufacturers in China.

The partnership integrates Red Flag's embedded software (including the Embedded Linux operating system) with Trolltech's Qt/Embedded and Qt Palmtop Environment. The resulting solution allows manufacturers in many markets to avoid the costs of allocating resources to tune devices so that they support many different potential software environments.

“The mission of Red Flag is, Based on Linux, targeted Internet era, provide the power to any Internet device and Enterprise solution.” Said Bo Liu, Red Flag's President and CEO. “Our cooperation with Trolltech will push the development of Embedded Linux and present a high-availability solution to market.”

The partnership covers activity in three arenas . . .

• Trolltech and Red Flag will work together to integrate Qt/Embedded with Red Flag's embedded Linux-based software packages: Thin Client, Set-top Box, PDA, and Lottery Machine;

• Red Flag will become a Value-Added Reseller of Qt/Embedded;

• Red Flag will offer professional services for Qt/Embedded;

Trolltech is already working on input/output technology to provide character display and handwriting recognition for Asian languages. That technology will also be integrated into the software provided by this partnership.

Red Flag Embedded Linux OS for Set Top Boxes, PDAs, and thin clients, among others, joins the comprehensive line of Red Flag Linux solutions that has already been introduced to the marketplace in China. These include the Red Flag Linux Server, Red Flag Linux Desktop, Red Flag Linux operating system for IBM S/390/Alpha/Intel/PA
RISC/Sun Sparc host, Red Flag Linux server for high performance enterprise applications.
