Feb 14, 2002 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsWolfgang Denk submitted the following announcement regarding newly released RTAI support for Motorola and IBM PowerPC embedded processors . . .
DENX Software Engineering has released an extended version of the RTAI real-time extension (version 24.1.8) to the Linux kernel which now runs on a wide range of PowerPC systems, including Motorola MPC7xx, MPC8xx, MPC82xx, and IBM 4xx CPUs.
The patch, which is available here, has been tested with the following Linux kernels:
- Version 2.4.18-pre7 from linuxppc_2_4_devel tree, ChangeSet 1.851 — on IBM 405GP CPU
- Version 2.4.4-2002-02-14 (available here) — on Motorola MPC750, MPC823, MPC850, MPC855, MPC860, MPC8240, MPC8260 CPUs
This is the first version of RTAI (and the first free version of a real-time Linux extension at all) that supports the IBM 4xx CPUs.
Please see the file “README.DENX” (in the tarball) for install instructions, known problems and limitations. For additional information please contact [email protected].
It should be noted that version 24.1.8 is the first version of RTAI where all of the core functionality is released under GPL, so that it is fully protected against any infringement claim by the RTLinux patent license.
