Samsung and Lineo form Embedded Linux joint venture in Korea

The venture, to be headed by a senior Samsung executive, will focus on providing embedded systems solutions to Samsung Electronics and Samsung Electro-Mechanics. Operations will begin almost immediately, with headquarters located just south of Seoul.
“We are pleased to further strengthen our relationship with Samsung,” said Bryan Sparks, CEO, Lineo, Inc. “Samsung was one of the early investors in Lineo and is one of the premier consumer electronics and device manufacturing companies in the world. Through the joint venture, we will help Samsung in its commitment to make embedded Linux the operating system of choice for device manufacturers.”
“We intend to leverage Lineo's technical expertise and its dedicated focus on embedded systems technology to push the frontiers of embedded device innovation,” said Young Won Park, executive director of planning, Samsung Electronics. “We expect this to be a long and mutually beneficial relationship for both Samsung and Lineo.”
