Sharp comments on Best Buy’s Zaurus clearance

A representative from Sharp recently responded to an email inquiry regarding Best Buy's apparent discontinuation of the Sharp Zaurus SL-5500 PDA. The following response was posted to Usenet, and is quoted below:
Sharp sold a certain number of SL-5500s to Best Buy through our distribution… channels (I'm not certain what that number was). Best Buy is putting the Zaurus on clearance to sell off the remainder of their stock. The SL-5500 is still being produced, but Best Buy only bought that certain amount. They have a tendency to only buy a set amount and then try to clear their shelves early for upcoming models, instead of overbuying and letting the product sit there for too long.
Sharp is actually investing a great deal into getting deeper into the PDA market, and are coming out with newer models later this year of the Zaurus (or possibly early next year). More information will be available on those products at www.myzaurus.com as soon as it becomes available.
Additionally, it has recently been rumored that CompUSA will soon be offering the Zaurus.
