CNET Asia reports that Sony is strongly considering using embedded Linux as the operating system inside the next major version of its popular game console, the PlayStation 3, due out in 2005. Also, BMW is reportedly looking at switching to embedded Linux for the OS running the iDrive computer in its 745i sedan.

The CNET story is based on comments made by Sam Greenblatt, a senior vice president and chief architect of Computer Associates' Linux technology group.
