States: Microsoft is abusing settlement [Reuters]

Reuters news agency reports that the states still pursuing an antitrust case against Microsoft alleged Tuesday that Microsoft has already used its proposed settlement with the U.S. Justice Department to impose harsher terms on computer manufacturers that buy its software. Reuters writes . . .

“. . . the non-settling states charge that the company has taken advantage of the terms of the proposed antitrust settlement 'to adopt significantly more onerous licensing terms and to impose them on the (computer manufacturers)' . . .”

“The states said Microsoft had forced computer manufacturers to agree to sign a provision that would go further in preventing them from enforcing the patents on their own hardware against Microsoft . . .”
