SuperH, TimeSys partner for SH-4, SH-5 embedded Linux

SuperH will include TimeSys Linux Standard Edition software development kits (SDKs) with its SH-4 processor cores, and the two companies will collaborate to develop an embedded Linux platform for upcoming SH-5 processor cores, the companies said.
SuperH said it targets its CPU cores at consumer, automotive, telecom, and handheld multimedia appliance applications, including devices such as set-top boxes, residential gateways, car information systems, modems, digital cameras, and multimedia players. SuperH's processor cores currently include the 32-bit SH-4 RISC CPU core with integrated vector FPU (floating point unit) and the SH-5 64-bit RISC CPU core which adds SIMD (single instruction multiple data) capabilities,and future generations will include the SH-6 superscalar 64-bit CPU core and the multithreading SH-7, the company said.
TimeSys Linux running on the SuperH 7750-SE01 SBC will be showcased in SuperH's booth at the Embedded Systems Conference in San Francisco later this month.
