The Linux distro behind the $200 Wal-Mart PC

Everyone's talking about the $200 Linux-based Everex gPC TC2502 that recently sold out at Wal-Mart within a few short days. DesktopLinux takes a look at the Ubuntu Linux-based gOS operating system that runs it.

In a recent DesktopLinux story, Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols looks inside the gOS distro, which spread through word-of-mouth, gaining even more popularity with the success of the Everex gPC TC2502. Based on Ubuntu 7.1 , it stands out from the crowd with its “Google-centric” Enlightenment E17 desktop environment, says Vaughan-Nichols, as well as its Web 2.0 applications and ability to run on low-end hardware such as the official gOS development board, which costs only $60 and is still available.
