Three desktop Linux games ported to Sharp Zaurus

An announcement from Bill Kendrick of New Breed Software . . .

Three open source games created for the Linux desktop using libSDL — “Vectoroids,” “Mad Bomber”, and “Bug Squish” — have been ported to the Sharp Zaurus SL-5500 Linux-based PDA. Each game has been scaled down graphically to fit the touchscreen display, and released as an easily-installed package for the Zaurus. (iPaqs running 'Familiar' Linux and Trolltech's Qtopia may work, as well.)

“Vectoroids” is a clone of the classic vector-based arcade game “Asteroids” by Atari. It was originally released as “Agendaroids,” an X-Window game written for the Agenda VR3 Linux-based PDA, and was then ported to libSDL and released for the Linux desktop as an entry for the SDL game programming contest held recently by Linux Journal, Loki Entertainment Software and No Starch Press. It was awarded 3rd place out of over two dozen entries.

“Mad Bomber” is a clone of the popular Atari 2600 video game “Kaboom!”, by Activision. The Zaurus version is played with the stylus, and is the first Zaurus game to be played in landscape mode (sideways).

In the latest release, “Bug Squish,” the player must squish parasites before being sucked dry of blood. (It's based on Pangea Software's “Blood Suckers” for MacOS.)
