Pittsburgh, PA — (press release excerpt) — TimeSys Corporation today announced embedded Linux support for Motorola's MVME2433-3 and MVME5100-0131 single board computers (SBC) built on the PowerPC 750 processor. Embedded systems developers looking for a Linux solution for these PowerPC 750-based VME boards will be able to download a complete, certified solution beginning April 26.

TimeSys' Linux products for the MVME2433 and MVME5100 boards provide a complete embedded Linux solution for building applications for the defense-aerospace, industrial automation, consumer digital and telecommunications industries. The TimeSys embedded Linux support includes a full Linux distribution with the lowest-latency Linux kernel available, certified device drivers, GNU toolchains, cross platform development tools, and performance enhancing loadable kernel modules.

TimeSys' complete embedded Linux solutions for these boards feature TimeSys Linux GPL, consisting of a fully featured preemptible kernel that extends a standard Linux distribution to support the predictable, extremely low-latency response requirements of embedded systems based on the PowerPC architecture. Also available are TimeSys modules that transform TimeSys Linux GPL to meet the performance requirements of applications ranging from handheld devices and telecommunication switches to process control and avionics. TimeSys Linux/Real-Time delivers additional capabilities to deliver full response predictability to TimeSys Linux GPL. TimeSys Linux/CPU and /Net provide capabilities for dynamic load handling and system overload protection. Used in conjunction with TimeSys' cross-platform development tools, TimeSys provides a complete embedded Linux-based solution for designing, developing and deploying devices on the Motorola MVME2433 and MVME5100 boards.

TimeSys' Linux solution for the Motorola MVME2433 and MVME5100 boards delivers a complete solution for embedded engineers that includes:

  • Support for the MVME2433-3 and MVME5100-0131 for TimeSys' complete embedded-Linux product offering
  • Linux board-hosted GNU tool chains
  • PC-based Linux cross-platform GNU tool chains
  • Timing analysis core for use by TimeSys' event tracing and timing visualization tool: TimeTrace
  • Certified device drivers
  • User, API and SBC specific documentation

For Windows-based cross platform development, TimeSys supports the MVME boards with a set of Windows-based cross-development tools.
