TimeSys offers pSOS users a penguin PAL

Jul 12, 2000 — by Rick Lehrbaum — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

Adding to support previously announced by embedded Linux suppliers Lineo and MontaVista (see references, below), TimeSys today announced a pSOS Abstraction Layer (PAL) that works in conjunction with the company's Linux/RT embedded Linux distribution. The abstraction layer maps pSOS system calls to TimeSys Linux/RT calls. Developers need only re-compile their code and link it with a provided library, to end up with a working application that includes real-time capabilities within a true Linux kernel environment.

The recent flood of support for pSOS-to-Linux transition support follows the announcement by embedded RTOS leader Wind River of a plan to eventually move its pSOS customers to VxWorks and phase out pSOS support. (Wind River completed its acquisition of pSOS developer Integrated Systems Inc. in February, 2000 — see press release. pSOS and VxWorks are real-time operating systems for embedded system applications.)
