TimeSys unveils Linux/GPL support for Intel Xscale
Feb 25, 2002 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsSan Francisco; Intel Developer Forum — (press release excerpt) — TimeSys Corporation today announced that its Linux-based solutions have been optimized to support the Intel Corporation's Xscale architecture. This expands TimeSys' overall footprint to include processor architectures that include x86, ARM, PowerPC, SuperH, and now Xscale.
TimeSys has developed a Board Support Package (BSP) specifically optimized for the architectural features of the Intel IOP310 I/O chipset and the IQ80310 PCI Board package. The TimeSys IQ80310 BSP will feature TimeSys Linux/GPL, consisting of a fully featured preemptible kernel that extends a standard Linux distribution to support the predictable, extremely low-latency response requirements of embedded systems based on the Intel Xscale architecture.
TimeSys' BSP for the Intel IQ80310 includes . . .
- Support for the IQ80310 for TimeSys' complete embedded-Linux product offering
- Linux board-hosted GNU tool chains
- x86 Linux cross-platform GNU tool chains
- Timing analysis core for use by TimeSys' event tracing and timing visualization tool: TimeTrace
- Certified device drivers
- User and API documentation
- TimeStorm: TimeSys' Windows-hosted Integrated Development Environment for cross-platform development
- TimeTrace: a Windows-hosted tool for event tracing and timing visualization
- TimeWiz: a Windows-hosted real-time analysis and simulation tool
Available for the IQ80310 BSP are additional Linux-based TimeSys modules that transform TimeSys Linux/GPL to meet the requirements of applications ranging from handheld devices and telecommunication switches to process control and avionics. TimeSys Linux/Real-Time delivers additional capabilities to deliver full response predictability to TimeSys Linux/GPL. TimeSys Linux/CPU and /Net provides capabilities for dynamic load handling and system overload protection. Used in conjunction with TimeSys' cross-platform development tools, TimeSys provides a complete embedded Linux-based solution for the IQ80310 PCI Board.
TimeSys will be demonstrating its embedded Linux operating system, development tools, and proprietary performance enhancing modules for the Xscale and x86 family of processors at the Intel Developer Forum, Spring 2002, being held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, February 25-28.
