Trolltech phone stack wins embedded Linux award in China

Trolltech says its software stack for Linux-based phones has garnered a prestigious software award from a publication in China. Qtopia Phone Edition (QPE) was named “Best Embedded Linux Platform” by Open Source World, after undergoing a three-step selection process,… the company says.

Trolltech launched QPE in May of 2004, adding support for keypad interfaces and other enhancements later that year. It shipped the newest version of QPE in November, adding VoIP (voice-over-IP) features to support dual-mode or “converged” devices.

QPE previously won a “Best Embedded Solution” award at a LinuxWorld trade show in August.

Open Source World says its “editor's choice” awards aim to publicly endorse exceptionally worthy Linux applications. Winners are chosen after a three-step process that includes expert opinion polls, reader polls, and actual evaluation by the editorial board and by the Linux OpenLab, part of the China Software Testing Center.

Trolltech opened a Beijing office in April of 2005.

Mr. Sun Zhiyong, deputy editor-in-chief of Open Source World stated, “The 2005 Editor's Choice Award represents the different suggestions and comments from industry professionals, government officials, media organizations, and Open Source World readers. Trolltech's Qtopia Phone Edition is the leading application platform and user interface for Linux-based wireless devices.”
