uClinux does real-time?

Nov 16, 2000 — by Rick Lehrbaum — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 70 views

uClinux can apparently be mixed together with real-time add-ons such as RTLinux and RTAI, as indicated by a message at realtimelinux.org. The message says: “Phil Wilshire has taken Kwonsk's uClinux/RTL patches up to a later revision of uCLinux. This allows users with the newer [uCSimms] (with the network hardware byteswap) to use the RTL patches.”

Digging a bit deeper on the realtimelinux.org website, we find the following info about the real-time uClinux patches . . .

Here are Kwonsk's patches applied to the 2.0.38.1pre1 kernel:
    • Get a stock 2.0.38 kernel apply the uClinux-2.0.38.1pre1.diff patches
    • Apply the RTL0.9J-uClinux1pre1rt.diff
    • To get from the diff.gz files to teh plain diff files use gunzip.
    • Do a “make config” and ask for the Real Time options.
I will be moving on to the later patches almost immediately. This has run on a uCSimm but is NOT fully tested yet. enjoy — Phil Wilshire
Asked to comment on the uCLinux/RTL combo, Wilshire replied “It is, in fact, uCLinux with RTL 0.9J applied. The work has been pioneered by several others. I have just brought it up to date. I have a later version and am just waiting for some more testing to release it.”

The patches are available for download from realtimelinux.org, here.
