Hosted VoIP (voice-over-IP) infrastructure provider Solegy is promoting its custom softphone development services by offering free downloads of a softphone (software phone). The Solegy Softphone is based on open-source software and codecs, is fully customizable, and can be integrated with Solegy's “ServicePDQ” hosted services framework, the company says.

The Solegy Softphone is based on the Open Source SIP SIP (session initiation protocol) stack, which Solegy says it sponsors. The stack supports Linux and Windows, and is available under the GPL, LGPL, and MPL (General Public License, Lesser General Public License, and Mozilla Public License).

The Solegy Softphone integrates the iLBC, speex, GSM, and G.711 open-source codecs, and can also support proprietary codecs such as g.729 and g.723. The softphone can also be modified to include an instant messaging client with presence, customer branding, web page integration, and other features, the company says.

Additionally, the Solegy Softphone can be integrated with Solegy's “ServicePDQ” framework for VoIP network development, deployment, management, and billing. CEO Eric Hernaez stated, “The basic Softphone can be customized to take advantage of the many service management features available in our hosted environment.”
