ON Technology announced the availability of web-enabled support for remotely managing a broad range of fixed and mobile devices. The product, called ON iCommand, is based on a Java-based agent combined with a server-based software component.

The product is said to be capable of managing functions on thousands of remote devices simultaneously, under the control of centralized administration servers. Functions provided include unattended provisioning, operating system and application deployment, security updates, disaster recovery, and de-provisioning, and the product supports desktops, servers, and mobile devices such as laptops and handhelds, as well as next-generation devices such as smartphones, in-vehicle systems and consumer set-top boxes, the company said.

ON iCommand V2.0 is currently available for managing both Windows- and Linux-based devices. Version 2.1, expected within 45 days, will add support for devices based on Pocket PC, Sun Solaris, HP-UX, and Mac OS X.
