What are your main embedded Linux development challenges?
Jul 14, 2000 — by Rick Lehrbaum — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 1 viewsLinuxDevices.com has initiated another new Embedded Linux Poll. This latest poll will assist Embedded Linux product, service, and training providers in understanding the needs of developers who use Linux in their embedded system projects.
The question posed is: “What are the main development challenges?” Respondents are asked to select and prioritize their top three development challenges,… from among five choices:
- finding staff/consultants already familiar with Linux and related tools
- having existing staff learn how to effectively use Linux and related tools
- determining which distribution and vendor of Linux to choose
- determining which development tools to utilize
- keeping current with patches and enhancements from the Linux community
- ensuring on-going support for our choices in tools and Linux distributions
The purpose of the LinuxDevices.com Embedded Linux Polls is to develop an improved understanding of the embedded Linux market. The polls highlight specifics of the embedded applications, developer preferences for tools and support, and other aspects of the growing use of Linux in embedded applications. The new poll joins five other ongoing surveys:
- What do you value most about open source?
- a demographic survey
- Which Linux distribution(s) will you use?
- Why use Linux in embedded apps?
- Please describe your embedded Linux application
