Wind River will integrate third-party real-time debug and analysis tools with Workbench, its Eclipse-based development suite for embedded Linux and VxWorks (formerly, “Wind Power IDE 2.0). ScopeTools, from Real-Time Innovations (RTI) will be the “first significant tools” integrated with Workbench when it arrives later this Spring, according to Wind River.

Wind River has partnered with RTI for more than twelve years, during which RTI's StethoScope has been a mainstay for embedded developers. StethoScope debugs applications running at close to full speed, by dynamically patching application code at runtime, thus working without the need for hardware instrumentation or recompiling code with breakpoints.

Other ScopeTools include ProfileScope, a dynamic profiler, and MemScope, a real-time memory analyzer. More details about ScopeTools can be found on RTI's Website.

Workbench will ship this spring, according to a multi-faceted Linux-related announcement from Wind River in late February. Workbench will support Linux development, and development with VxWorks versions 6.0 and newer when they arrive. Wind River first announced its plans to launch an Eclipse-based development tool in December of last year.

Wind River competitor MontaVista also announced a partnership to support ScopeTools as Eclipse plugins for its Eclipse-based DevRocket tool suite.
