Wind River, Freescale partner on device designs

The broadly sketched deal will “unite the breadth and depth of each company's products and technologies,” Wind River says.
Key alliance elements are described as follows:
- Provide broad enablement for Freescale's PowerQUICC and host processors across Wind River's flagship software platforms, including the VxWorks RTOS, commercial Linux OS editions, and development tools
- Develop performance-optimized operating system and software stacks that leverage Freescale's SoC (system-on-chip) hardware acceleration blocks and high-speed interfaces
- Offer customers an easy “out-of-the-box” experience for a wide range of evaluation and reference platforms based on VxWorks and Linux OS
- Increase availability and performance of middleware “proof-of-concept” platform demonstrations and reference designs for specific applications
- Promote Freescale's and Wind River's combined platform solutions through joint marketing initiatives and global sales efforts
Wind River CEO Ken Klein stated, “Customers increasingly demand whole-product solutions that tightly integrate silicon, operating systems, tools, boards, and applications.”
David Perkins, SVP of Freescale's networking and computing systems group, stated, “The goal of this alliance is [to] enable a comprehensive set of highly integrated, performance-optimized solutions for home, enterprise, and networking and communications infrastructure markets.”
