Wind River will host a pair of half-day seminars on migrating device software to Linux this January, in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and Bethesda, MD. The seminars target engineers, project managers, and systems professionals, and will be led by embedded pundit Bill Weinberg.

Weinberg currently serves as open source architecture specialist for the OSDL (Open Source Development Labs), and editor-in-chief of the OSDL's Open Source Knowledge Exchange newsletter. He previously delivered keynote addresses at three Wind River seminars held in July.

According to Wind River, the seminars aim to help attendees determine whether Linux is right for them and, if so, identify an effective migration path. They will address Linux advantages, and roadmap factors to consider, such as cost, hardware support, performance, application-specific resources, and IP protection.

The seminars will also provide an overview of resources that can streamline the migration process, Wind River says, including development tools, embedded Linux platform choices, open source technology, and educational and community resources.

The seminars will be held from 8:30 AM to 12 PM, on Jan. 10, at the Westin Fort Lauderdale, and Jan. 12, at the Bethesda Marriott. Additional details can be found here.
