X10 + Linux: Formula for World Domination?

Dave, of LinuxTopia.com writes . . . “Once people begin using home automation, they will begin to depend on it. There will be a need for newer products, and better services. This is a need that Linux can fill nicely. Microsoft does not have a product that can perform the same tasks for anywhere near the same price. Assuming that Linux can fill this need, it will start to appear in more and more homes as people begin to use home automation.”

“Eventually, people will notice that their server hasn't been rebooted in 3 months. Thoughts of 'Why can't my (Windows-powered) desktop do that?' will begin to pop into their heads. By this time, Koffice and Mozilla should be at least nearing completion, giving Linux users alternatives to Microsoft's in-the-home monopolies: Office and Internet Explorer. With any luck, this could start a spiral of people turning to Linux on the desktop, and some real competition for Microsoft – if not the world domination that Linus Torvalds has called for.”
