Xbox to recognize speech

Mar 12, 2002 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

A LinuxDevices.com reader reports that Microsoft will announce speech recognition technology for Xbox gaming systems at ESC in San Francisco on Wednesday.

Fonix Corporation was selected to provide embedded speech recognition technology. The Fonix ASR (Automatic Speech Recognition) engine allows developers to create new Xbox games that use speech to direct onscreen actions and outcomes — giving the user an unbelievable interactive experience.

The combination of speech recognition technologies and interactive games have long been planned by Microsoft. A headset for use with the Xbox, called the Xbox Communicator was announced last July.

Fonix Corporation a provider of human-user interface technology solutions for wireless and mobile devices, vehicle telematics, and Internet and telephony systems. Fonix Embedded supports several popular embedded operating systems including Linux.
