A center for “open technology” startups will open in a Portland, Ore. suburb on February 1, the OSDL has announced. QuickLogic and Renasas are developing a reference design for mobile VoIP (voice-over-IP) and VoWLAN (voice-over-WLAN) phones running embedded Linux. The RTS7720IPP-DS3 design is based on a Renesas SuperH-DSP SoC (system-on-chip), along with a QuickLogic low-power programmable PCI bridge. Mini Kernel Dump (mkdump) is a Linux-based mini-kernel that runs underneath the Linux kernel, providing a stable environment for capturing and dumping crash dump data. It previously supported IA-32. Wind River has acquired the tools division of a long-time partner. The embedded giant will pay Real-Time Innovations (RTI) $10 million for its ScopeTools business unit, including 11 employees and IP (intellectual property) rights to RTI's well-known ScopeTools.
