Linux 2.6 kernel modeled in UML 2.0

The Software Revolution has created a complete, detailed model of the 2.6 Linux kernel using UML 2.0 (unified modeling language). Partnership aims to replace Windows, Citrix with Linux

Win4Lin and NoMachine will jointly develop thin-client server software capable of securely and efficiently serving Windows thin-client sessions from Linux servers, the companies say. The product will be based on Win4Lin's hybrid Linux/Windows terminal server and NoMachine's caching proxy server, and will be positioned as a Linux-hosted alternative to Citrix. (more…)

Linux dev kit includes Ethernet debugger

Embedded Toolsmiths has announced that its software debugger is included in an AMCC Linux development kit for a general-purpose industrial PowerPC processor. Embedded Toolsmith's software-only Agile-DB Debugger comes standard with the AMCC 440EP kit, while its hardware-assisted JTAG debugger Guardian-SE is available as an upgrade. (more…)

Space Shuttle control graphics software ported to Linux

Real-time animated graphics tools used in control applications for Hong Kong's subway system and NASA's Space Shuttle have been ported to AMD-64 Linux. Kinesix's Sammi application development kit for Linux includes vector graphics interface creation tools, runtimes, and network APIs, and targets aerospace, transportation, and defense. (more…)

PowerPC Linux dev kit showcases tools

Linux-friendly dev board available for 64-bit MIPS SoC

Toshiba America Electronic Components is shipping a reference board for its newest 64-bit MIPS/RISC chip. The RBTX4939 includes a TX4939XBG-400 processor module available for use in embedded designs. Toshiba is developing a Linux BSP (board support package), with BSPs also expected from MontaVista and Wind River. (more…)

PXA2xx PCI, HDD controllers gain embedded Linux support

QuickLogic has announced that its programmable PCI bridge and hard drive controller for Intel's XScale PXA2xx (Bulverde) processors are supported by Viosoft's embedded Linux Development tools. Arriba Embedded Linux Edition for the QuickLogic Mobile Applications Platform can be used to develop drivers, loadable modules, and user-mode applications. (more…)
