Linux phone toolkit wins LinuxWorld honor

The just-concluded LinuxWorld Conference and Expo awarded its Product Excellence Award for the “best application development platform and tool” to Trolltech's Qtopia Phone Edition (QPE) version 4. Earlier this week, Trolltech unveiled the Greenphone, an “open” Linux-based phone that it plans to begin supplying to QPE application developers in September. (more…)

Consortium updates XTX computer-on-module spec

The XTX Consortium has released revision 1.1 of the specification for XTX, one of several alternative upgrade paths to the popular ETX computer-on-module (COM) standard. Freescale to develop wireless software in Bangalore

Freescale Semiconductor has opened a 100,000-square-foot facility in Bangalore to support research and development in software for wireless technologies. Linux job market sizzles

Strong demand for Linux professionals outpaced overall job growth during the past year, according to IT job clearinghouse Dice.com. As of August 1, job listings for Linux-experienced tech pro's have jumped 36 percent so far this year, and 55 percent from 12 months ago, the service reports. (more…)
